For a rustic or mountain look use Flame Safe X-T Fire retardant Western Red Rough Sawn Cedar. It's an ideal wood product for salt water and fresh water docks and boat houses or even residences that may be subjected to wind caused water spray. Flame Safe X-T fire retardant cedar is naturally resistant to rot and decay and will remain fire retardant for many years. It is a softwood that can be easily cut, planed, shaped, nailed, glued and sanded while still remaining fie resistant. |
FLAME SAFE'S EXTERIOR FIRE RETARDANT TREATED WOOD PRODUCTS For those specifications that call for exterior fire retardant lumber and plywood that wil have exposure to the elements or high humidity conditions, Flame Safe's X-T exterior fire retardant wood products are the products of choice. In addition to being tested to the ASTM E84 standard (UL723, NFPA 255) test method of surface burning characteristics of building materials, Flame Safe X-T has been sujected to the ASTM D2898 (Accelerated Weathering Fire-Retardant-Treated-Wood for Fire Testing [rain test]). Flame Safe X-T has also been tested under the UL1256 (Underwriters Laboratories) attics and other confined areas where high humidity moisture conditions may exist. Application such as exterior decks, balconies, stairs, or siding are notable examples of where Flame Safe X-T would be the logical choice. Flame Safe X-T lumber, timbers, wood decking, and siding can be ordered in numerous species of wood, including western red cedar (WRC), douglas fir (doug fir / DF), southern yellow pine (SYP), spruce (SPF), and redwood. Flame Safe X-T exterior fire retardant lumber, plywood and timbers have a clear finish that can be stained with a water based stain or painted with a latex based paint. Flame Safe X-T wood products are manufactured at our Fort Worth, TX treating facility and are available for orders as small as a few pieces or as large as multiple truckloads. Flame Safe X-T exterior fire retardant wood products are not decay resistant in itself, however Flame Safe X-T can be specified with a preservative treatment as well. Flame Safe warrants it's X-T to perform as tested under the ASTM E84 and the ASTM D2898 test methods, and will last as long as the perservative treatment for outdoor applications. To increase longevity for outdoor applications such as wood decks, balconies, porches, exposed beams, timbers, trellises, and gazebos, Flame Safe recommends the use of Flame Safe X-T cedar. Cedar is species of wood that is naturally decay, rot, and weather resistant.

FLAME SAFE'S INTERIOR FIRE RETARDANT TREATED WOOD PRODUCTS Depending on building occupancy, location of the material in the building and the presence of sprinklers, fire retardant wood materials are permitted under code requirements. To comply with the code standards, wood and wood products must meet the ASTM E84 test standard (Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials). The test chamber is rectangular being 24" wide, 12" in height and 25' in length. Multiple windows are located in the upper half of the wall of the test chamber so the test samples can be observed from outside the fire chamber. This test method determines the relative burning behavior of the fire retardant wood by observing the flame spread along the specimen. The flame spread is determined by distance the flame travels and the rate at which the flame front advances during the first 10 minute exposure, ASTM E2768 Test continues the test for an additional 20 minutes. Smoke generation is recorded and indexed. |
Flame Safe lumber is kiln dried to a moisture content not to exceed 19%. Flame Safe plywood is kiln dried to a moisture content not to exceed 15%. Flame Safe’s finished moldings and trim is kiln dried to a maximum moisture content of 6 to 12 % depending on the species and specific use. Pitch in the wood is crystallized permitting interior and exterior finishes to be easilly applied. When kiln dried, Flame Safe fire retardant treated wood becomes lighter and stronger, maximizing it's structural uses.
